: History
A look back at 25 years of sheepskin
The UGG® Australia story began in 1978, when Brian Smith, a young surfer from Australia, took a trip to the United States with a bag full of sheepskin boots. After finding a new home amongst California surfers, the UGG® Australia brand began to take shape.
Deckers Outdoor Corporation acquired UGG® Australia in 1995. By 1998, the product line had grown to include two boots, four slippers and a few casuals. It was in 1998 that the critical repositioning of UGG® took place. The brand was positioned as a high-end luxury footwear brand, made evident by a premium distribution strategy and high-end fashion marketing and communications.
The luxury and comfort of UGG® Australia proved to be a perfect fit for the high-end footwear world and soon Nordstrom had become the destination for UGG® Australia. The media reach expanded into more and more high-end magazine titles. The business continued to grow steadily as the brand recognition increased. To that end, UGG® has had no better contributor than Oprah Winfrey.
In 2000, Oprah was sent a pair of Ultra boots. She loved the product so much, she purchased 350 pair for her entire staff. Oprah then featured the Ultra Boot on her well-known "Oprah's Favorite Things" show. 3 years later, Oprah selected UGG® Australia for the second time. She featured the Baby Pink and Baby Blue Classic Boots. The show aired in November, and the boots immediately became the "must-have" item for holiday shoppers. Lightning struck a third time in 2005, when Oprah featured the Uptown boot on "Oprah's Favorite Things". The results speak for themselves.
From humble beginnings to global success and notoriety, the UGG® story reads like a fairy tale. In 2003, UGG® was named Footwear News' "Brand of the Year" and was responsible for the creation of an entirely new category of footwear. From then on, sheepskin footwear could be seen on the runways in Milan, Paris and New York; and it all began on the beach in Australia. The future is limitless for UGG® Australia, introducing product extensions and warm-weather footwear, all while maintaining the position as the world leader in luxury and comfort.
: Philanthropy
UGG® Australia Raises Money and Awareness
In 2005, UGG® Australia decided to partner with St. Jude as the primary charity for each annual Art & Sole celebrity boot auction. Every year select high profile artists, actors, and musicians are asked to hand design a pair of Classic Boots to auction off on eBay. All of the proceeds are then donated to further the research for St. Jude. Last year UGG® Australia raised $40,000 and was named 'Best Charity Event of the Year' by Accessories Magazine. Celebrity participants included: Matt Lauer, Reese Witherspoon, Donald Trump, John Travolta, Faith Hill, Brooke Shields, Sharon Stone and many more.

Decker's Factory Charter
In our commitment to the international community, UGG® Australia and our parent company Deckers Outdoor Corporation, are proud of our progressive business policies toward human and worker rights, as well as the environment.
You can be assured that none of UGG® Australia's manufacturers employ child, forced, indentured, or convict labor. We comply with the human and workers rights guidelines established by Amnesty International. We grade our assigned factories several times a year against our standards and work very closely with them to ensure that safety measures such as, minimum wages, protection against mandatory overtime, access to first aid, adequate lighting, healthy clean air, and safe workstations are implemented.
You can be assured that your UGG® Australia luxury sheepskin products are purely made by environmentally friendly means. All of our boot, shoe, and slipper uppers are made of 100% carded wool, which is 100% renewable. Many of our outsoles are made from 50% consumer recycled rubber as well. With Microban we have developed a zinc based anti microbial, which is inert and safe for the environment, and we continue to move towards implementation of using water-based cements for the assembly of our footwear, and soy-based inks for our printed boxes. In our continued efforts we will continue our progressive environmental policies to make even greater leaps and bounds.
UGG® Australia believes in the furthering of such progressive business practices, and encourages other businesses to also take such measures.
: Sheepskin
Features and benefits of sheepskin
UGG® Australia uses only the best quality sheepskin exclusively. Twin-faced sheepskin is used in many of our core products. A piece of twin-faced sheepskin has been treated on both the fleece side, and the skin side.
The wool of genuine sheepskin is extremely dense (more-so than any synthetic), which provides for a more comfortable and durable material.
Fleece breathes, wicks moisture away, and allows air to circulate, keeping feet dry.
Sheepskin is naturally water resistant & therefore small amounts of moisture will not seep through or damage it.
UGG® Australia sheepskin is naturally thermostatic & therefore will keep bare feet warm in temperatures as low as -30°F and cool in temperatures as high as 80°F (Sheepskin will naturally insulate by keeping feet warm in the winter & cool in the summer).
The sheep that we use have finer wool & cleaner skin.
: Warranty
UGG® Australia footwear is warranted for one year against defective materials and workmanship that may occur outside of normal wear and tear.
Slight dye transfer may occur with darker colored sheepskin during first few wears.
Because sheepskin is a natural product, there may be some irregularities and variations in color and texture. These traits are characteristic of fine sheepskin and add to the beauty and character of the footwear.
Defect evaluations take 1 to 3 weeks to process. If a product is not deemed defective, it will be returned to the customer.
All packages should be sent via a trackable method. UGG® Australia is not responsible for packages that are lost in transit sent by customers.
